This year has been a big year… to say the least. Adapting to a post-COVID world has brought significant change to the MGMT team and the industry as a whole. This period has seen many of MGMT’s long-term creators achieve their personal goals, whilst the MGMT team has grown exponentially—and that’s not just the internal team, but their stable of talent, too. Reflecting on the year that was, team MGMT reveal their challenges, their successes and what’s coming next.

KAT MOSES, DIRECTOR

Q: What has set 2022 apart from other years with MGMT?

A: “This year has felt like I've launched an entirely new business! Earlier in 2022, MGMT went live with a complete rebrand that we had worked on for six months and it changed the entire communication strategy around the agency. We moved into a new office space, onboarded new talent and hired new staff. I would say 2022 has been a big year of growth and change for the agency.”

Q: Describe the year (briefly) in your own words.

A: “Never-ending chaos.”

Q: What has been the biggest challenge for you this year?

A: “Figuring out what my role was within MGMT after I stepped back from being a talent agent. Even though I had owned and directed the agency since it launched in 2015, I had never run it as a fully fledged business. I've had to explore what type of leader I wanted to be to my team, learn the operational side of the business and implement structure and processes.”

Q: What has been the biggest success for you this year?

A: “Successfully rebuilding the agency after we took a small loss at the end of 2021. It was time for a change and to take another risk—which scared me—but in retrospect, it was the best thing I could've done. To execute the strategy and for it to turn out to be so successful and well received is something that I'm incredibly proud of.”

Q: How do you feel having 34 talent creators representing MGMT?

A: “Shocked in a really good way. It's flattering to have so many creators put their trust into MGMT, and it's a true credit to the team.”

Q: What’s your favourite thing about MGMT?

A: “The office. It's a fun vibe.”

Q: What do you think differentiates MGMT?

A: “We're clear about our values and what our services encompass. I like to think of us as strategic consultants to our talent, rather than just talent agents. MGMT is big on diversity and this is reflected in the talent roster so brands know where to go if they're looking to diversify their collaborators. Our personal brand building sessions and strategy reviews are also a big reason why we've been successful; we treat our talent like they are their own brand.”

Q: Do you have anything planned for next year? What is in the works?

A: “I'm in the middle of planning for 2023/2024. It will include new hires, making more noise around our UGC service and a potential push into the international market.”

Q: What makes MGMT, MGMT?

A: “Our personalised approach to talent and clients.”

BILLIE BAYLIS, MARKETING EXECUTIVE
